Feeling Good About Being a Woman

Isn’t it a joy to be a woman? Take a moment to embrace three things you love about yourself as the woman you are.

Volumes can be written about women and their contributions to our world. A woman’s very being is her gift—her inner wiring inspires her to be caring, compassionate, kind, intuitive, creative and connecting.

In a spirit of helping us remember our value and worth, even when society or others may fall short, here is a very brief list of a few interesting facts about women:

Two of the Seven Wonders of the Ancient World were built by women: the Hanging Gardens of Babylon were planted by the Assyrian Queen Semiramis; and the Mausoleum of Halicarnassus was built by Artemisia, queen of Caria.

- The two highest IQ scores in recorded history belong to women.
- Women earn more than 60% of all college degrees in the United States.
- Girls’ brains generally mature 2 years earlier than boys’.
- On average, women live 2–5 years longer than men.
- Women see 20% more color than men.
- Women, even from infancy, are generally more interested in facial expressions, emotional tones in voices, and non-verbal cues than men.
- A woman’s clitoris grows throughout her lifetime. This means that many women in their forties and fifties have stronger orgasms than they did during their teens and twenties.
- The anterior cingulate cortex, the part of the brain that weighs options when making a decision, is larger in women than in men.

Not all of women's actions are grand feats; many are the everyday parts of living: tending a garden, consoling a friend, making a meal, volunteering for a good cause, praying, celebrating, creating a lovely environment, changing a baby's diaper, helping Mother Earth in some way.

In a time of gender fluidity, surprisingly, it can be sticky to claim being a woman. Yet, just as each person has the right to claim how they identify, women have that right, too. One group claiming their identity or accomplishments does not diminish the others. All of us can, and indeed should, co-exist with love, acceptance and respect for everyone. Doing so is one of the things that creates a new world that benefits all of us.

So, give yourself a hug and know that as a woman, you are in good company--a sisterhood of amazing humans! Of course, we love all the humans--yet we thought you’d like to take some time to think about how glorious women like you really are.

Joyfully claiming our womanhood,
