Sharing Their Light - Women of Iran

Acts of civil disobedience by women in Iran are increasing because women are rebelling against being forced to wear hijabs (head scarves). Right now, if they forgo wearing them, women are violating the law which is enforced by “morality police,” sometimes ending in death.

Women, Life, freedom

Words written on a protest sign held by a woman in Tehran, Iran

We talk a lot in our New World Women community about moving beyond the patriarchy so that women can be self-empowered and make the best choices for their lives. The world is changing for the better in many ways, yet we still have a long way to go.

One of the ways Western women can help, as requested by some Iranian women, is to show solidarity by speaking out for ALL women’s rights.

How are you claiming your own freedoms? What are you called to do to support other women’s freedoms?

Take a moment to envision a world in which all women are honored and respected—and not treated like children. Then take inspired action.

What gives us hope is that issues like racism, misogyny, wealth disparity, hunger and a host of other inequities, which were formerly hidden, are coming to the surface for the whole world to see.

This is just the beginning.
