Goddess Durga Energy to Protect and Inspire Us
The goddess Durga, also known as Shakti or Devi in the Hindu religion, is the protective mother of the universe. Known as the embodiment of 108 goddesses, Sri Durga is one of the faith's most popular deities and is seen as the protector of all that is good and harmonious in the world. Sitting atop a lion or tiger, the multi-limbed Durga battles the forces of evil and ignorance in the world.
In New World Women, we choose to replace that which is unloving rather than fighting it. Fighting, or resisting something is exhausting, ineffective and may result in whatever we are fighting persisting and actually gaining strength! And though Durga is seen as having warrior energy in addition to all of her other fine attributes, we see her as having the energy of a mother bear protecting her cubs.
That being said, many women have tended to hold back from defending what they hold dear (including their own wellbeing and self-empowerment). This submissive “go along to get along” response by women proliferated by culture, history and patriarchy, is being replaced by a new energy of women standing in the fullness of their being--within supportive community. This sisterhood of like-hearted women contributes to the creation of a brand new world.
During the pandemic, Dawn was visited by a beautiful, ethereal and powerful woman three times. Not knowing who this entity was, Dawn did much research and discovered it was the goddess Durga.
When in a deep and prayerful process led by her teachers in India, Dawn asked the goddess Durga how to describe one thing the women who would become a part of New World Women had in common. The words “...ready for better” flowed like honey into the space in front of her eyes. The three of us feel gratitude to Durga for helping us see and know one desire that lives in the hearts of our sisterhood of New World Women.
Along with the gifts we receive from many other inspired beings, both human and ethereal, Mother Durga watches over us, with fierce protection, love and guidance.
May you enjoy this beautiful chant to Maa Devi Durga--and feel the peace and protection she provides.
