Cross that Bridge

Updated: May 4

We thought it fitting to share a “follow your dreams”- themed song with a gospel flair, composed by one of our very own Co-Founders, Shawn Vougeot.

Having been raised by a single mom (artist, art teacher, musician, poet and philosopher) who always encouraged and supported her in following her dreams, Shawn pursued a professional singing career immediately upon graduating from college.

For Shawn’s debut album, Streets (released in 1999), she and her mother, Kari Simkins, collaborated in composing “Cross That Bridge.”

We hope this song inspires you to “Cross That Bridge where dreams long lost are found..."

If you’d like to sing along, the lyrics are provided below the video.

Verse 1

I'm climbing cliffs too much they say

Well who are those voices anyway?

This playground has so many swings, rocks, and jungle gyms

I won't turn in my ropes, my wanderlust, my hopes

And I won't put down my sack while the wind's still at my back

And so I must

Chorus

Cross That Bridge

Where dreams long lost are found

Though picket fences hunt me down

I'll climb to higher ground and

Cross That Bridge

To unfamiliar ground

Then I'll never look back

Once I Cross That Bridge

Verse 2

Now my jeans are nothing but a shred

And my hiking boot has no sole(soul) left in its tread

But I'd rather be lost in old clothes

Than found aproned to a stove

So "Wake Up!" to your youth

There is nothing that you can't do!

And so I must

Chorus

Cross That Bridge

Where dreams long lost are found

Though picket fences hunt me down

I'll climb to higher ground and

Cross That Bridge

To unfamiliar ground

Then I'll never look back

Once I Cross That Bridge
