3 Ways to Transform Jobs into Joys

Updated: Sep 9, 2021

“Doing what you love is the cornerstone of having abundance in your life.”

Wayne Dyer

Labor Day, a holiday celebrated this weekend in the U.S., became a topic of discussion in our first New World Women strategy and planning retreat on Friday.

Dawn recalled the story of a woman she coached many years ago who was looking for a new job. The woman sought a job that would allow her to feel she was doing something to benefit the world and work that would bring happiness to her own life too.

While typing the woman’s coaching notes to send to her, Dawn kept typing the word “joy” every time she typed the word “job.” The next time the two met, they agreed that this was not a typing error at all--it was a sign from the Divine that the woman would attract just the right job by staying focused on joy.

During this discussion, Mecca said, “It’s amazing what happens when you change the ‘b’ in the word job to ‘be’ and the ‘y’ in the word joy to a 'why!'” Shawn immediately laughed her sparkling laugh, agreed and added, “Perspective makes all the difference--and even doing a job one doesn’t actually love or having moments in that job they don’t like can still have many moments of joy. Joy is a choice.”

Here are three ways to transform a job of any kind into an abundance of joy:

1. Be fully present to what you are doing. Look at each task as if you’re seeing it for the very first time and you will refresh your energy while performing it.

2. Feel gratitude with all of your senses--that you get to experience whatever it is you are working on. This makes you feel alive.

3. Celebrate or acknowledge your accomplishments, big or small.

And remember to acknowledge all those who have come before you whose work make our modern life so beautiful.

The woman in our story has continued to find an abundance of joy in her job for the past 16 years--and has helped hundreds of people along the way. She admits her job is not always easy, but when she gets present, feels gratitude with all of her senses and acknowledges her successes, joy is waiting there for her in each moment.

May you find an abundance of joy in all that you do.
